Anna Fröhlich was the oldest of the four Fröhlich sisters who were all friends of Franz Grillparzer. Anna was also a friend of Franz Schubert and after his death she organised concerts dedicated to him and his work. Her father was Mathias Fröhlich (1765-1843) and her mother was born as Barbara Mayr (1764-1841). Her mother lived seperately from the rest of the family for a while. The family lived at the Singerstrasse 18 (still standing) in Vienna from 1811 and at the Spiegelgasse 21 (demolished) from 1826. Anna was musically trained by her mother and she often visited the theatre and the opera. She performed both as a singer and a pianist and acted as an intermediary between artists and patrons. After Schubert died she organised concerts dedicated to his work that were also meant to support active artists. She supported the emerging Schubert cult and she was a source of information for the younger generation. Not long before her death she founded the Schwester-Fröhlich-Stiftung in 1879. She died in 1880 in Vienna.
