Eugen Kollberg started his acting career in Stuttgart at the Deutsches Theater around 1918. His roles were small in Stuttgart and Franz Höllering brought him to the Neues Stadttheater in Teplitz-Schönau. They he played supporting roles. In 1924-1925 he directed two plays by Heinrich von Kleist, "Der Zerbrochene Krug" and "Robert Guiskard". From 1925 to 1928 he worked in Saarbrücken and from 1928 to 1931 in Trier. In 1931 he went to Berlin where he appeared on several stages. In 1933 he was forced to leave Germany because he was Jewish. In 1937-1938 he worked in Innsbruck, where he directed Rendl's "Elisabeth, Kaiserin von Österreich". After the annexation of Austria by Germany he lived in Vienna. He was arrested and deported to Minsk on 25 May 1942. After arrival at the Maly Trostinec camp he was murdered on 1 June 1942. His sister Lily Kollberg was a painter. His name is on her grave at the Hietzing cemetery in Vienna. Related persons is brother-/sister-in-law of Elsner, Franz |
