Hans von Reininghaus was the son of the brewer Johann Peter von Reininghaus. He didn't join the brewery and became an inventor instead. Among his friends were Peter Rosegger, Alexander Girardi and Hans Brandstetter. He was among the first owners of a car in Graz and the founder and the president of the Automobilclub in that city. His first wife was Virginia Agujari. They had six children, but she started an affair with Conrad von Hötzendorf and they divorced in 1915. He was subsequently married to Louise van den Haende and he lived happily with his last wife, the apothecarian Elisabeth Seidl, in a small house at the Glacisstrasse 5 in Graz.
