Hans Brandstetter studied at the Academy in Vienna under Edmund von Hellmer and Carl Kundmann. For his first works the Academy awarded him a prize. In Graz Jakob Gschiel was hier teacher. He became a professor at the Staatsgewerbeschule in Graz and created several works for public places in that city. His bronze statue "The Forest Lily" is in the Stadtpark in Graz.
