Pauline Leroux was born in Paris as the daughter of war commisioner Louis Bénigne Marie Leroux. Her mother was Marguerite Suzanne Lecocq. After her father died during the French retreat from Moscow in 1812, her mother settled in Paris with her children. Pauline studied under Jean François Coulon and Auguste Vestris. From 1826 to 1837 she worked for the opera in Paris. In 1832 she was successful in "La Tentation" by Jean Coralli. "Le Diable boiteux" (1836), also by Coralli, was another success. She frequently appeared in London as well and the young princess Victoria painted watercolours of her in 1832/1833. In 1841 she appeared in the original production of Fromental Halévy's opera "La reine de Chypre". Between 1840 and 1844 she performed at Opera of Paris again to replace famous international dancers like Marie Taglioni and Fanny Elssler. After that she toured internationally and she worked as a choreographer. She married the actor Pierre Chéri Lafont on 12 July 1848. In 1891 she died in Paris and was buried at the Montmartre Cemetery in the grave of her husband who had died in 1873. Her older sister Antoinette Désirée (b.1807) was a dancer at the opera from 1821 to 1827 and her younger sister Aminthe (1815-1878) was an actress. Rosine Stolz performed the title part of this grand opera and Gilbert Duprez was Gérard. Joseph Mazilier was the choreographer.
