Hilde Konetzi was the younger sister of the singer Anny Konetzi. Rudolf Nilius was her teacher at the New Conservatory in Vienna and she debuted in 1929 in Chemnitz as Sieglinde in "Die Walküre", with Anny singing the part of Brünnhilde. She continued her studies in Prague under Ludmilla Prohaska-Neumann and in 1932 she was engaged at the Deutsche Theater in Prague, where she worked until 1935.

In 1936 she joined that State Opera in Vienna where she was a member of the cast until 1959. She toured the USA in 1937 and in 1939. She made several appearances at the Festspiele in Salzburg (1936, 1939 and 1941) and also performed in Hamburg, Paris, Buenos Aires, Amsterdam, Brussels, Zürich and at the Scala in Milan (in 1950).

In 1959 opera director Karl Böhm ended her engagement at the State Opera, but from 1963 until 1973 she worked at the Haus am Ring in Vienna.
