Anny Konetzi was born into a musical family. Opera singer Hilde Konetzi was her younger sister. Annie studied voice under Erik Schmedes as the Conservatory in Vienna. She also studied under Jacques Stuckgold in Berlin. In 1926 she debuted at the Volksoper in Vienna as a contralto in Wagner's "Rienzi". By 1929 she had a soprano voice and in 1934 she sang at the MET in New York. Her career was disrupted by the Second World War, but after the war she continued it with success until 1955. After she retired from the stage she continued her work as a voice teacher in Vienna. Her husband was the physician Dr. Albert Wiedmann. She died in Vienna in 1968. Her husband was buried beside her at the Evangelischer Pfarrfriedhof Simmering in Vienna in 1970. Related persons is brother/sister of Konetzni, Hilde |
