Yvonne Sarcey was the daughter of the famous drama critic Francisque Sarcey. Her mother was Madeline Varnier. She married Adolphe Brisson on 21 August 1889. He took over the direction of "Les Annales politiques et littéraires" after his father's death in 1902 and Yvonne was an active and successful contributor to this magazine. In 1907 she started the "Journal de l'université des Annales". During the First World War she was involved in the foundation of the Maisons claires that offered shelter to children who were victims of the war. After her husband's death she took over the management of his journal on an interim basis. She continued her literary work until old age. In 1934 she received the Légion d'honneur.
