Marie Royer was the daughter of the physician Vorle Royer. Her mother was Marguerite Dorley. She was a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Provost at the Conservatory in the dramatic proclamation class. Marie won first prize for tragedy as well as comedy in 1858. In the same year she entered the Comédie Française in Paris where she debuted in Jean Racine's "Athalie" in 1859. She appeared in several plays by Molière and Racine before she became a sociétaire in 1873. She died in the same year soon afterwards. The sculpture on her tomb at Père Lachaise was executed by Fanny Dubois-Davesnes (1826-1900). Related persons was pupil of Provost, Jean-Baptiste |
