Charles Houry was a Belgian painter whose family came from Luxembourg. He painted genre scenes and portraits and he was also a porcelain painter. He studied with Léon Cogniet and at the same time he worked at the Sèvres porcelain factory. From 1850 onward he exhibited at the Salon in Paris. He obtained French citizenship and he married the feminist Anna Houry on 5 October 1853. His work includes "Samson et Delilah" (1850) and "La mort de Charles le Téméraire devant Nancy" (1852).
