Félix Jacques was a Jew from the Alsace. He married Esther-Thérèse Hayer in 1817 or 1818 in Zillesheim. He was a travelling peddler and the family was very poor. In 1821, in Mumpf in Switzerland, their daughter Élisabeth Rachel was born. She would become a celebrated actress under the name of Rachel. Jacques and Esther would have six children. Lia, Rébecca and Dinah became actresses as well. The family travelled from town to town, and Jacques learned his children to sing and proclaim in order to earn some money.

In 1835 he set up a children's troupe of actors, who performed at the Théâtre du Ranelagh in Paris. One of his pupils was Julie Bernat, who would become famous as the actress Mademoiselle Judith. After his daughter Rachel became a successful actress, the family moved into a house on the Passage Vero-Dodat in the Palais-Royal district. Jacques managed Rachel's career and negotiated her contracts. In 1849 he tried to become the manager of the Odéon theatre, but he failed.

He survived his daughter Rachel, who died in 1858. Jacques died in 1872 in Paris and was buried in the family mausoleum at Père Lachaise.
