The actress Julie Bernat performed under the name of Mademoiselle Judith. In 1835 Jacob Félix, the father of the famous actress Rachel, set up a children's troupe of actors and at Judith was his pupil. They performed at the Théâtre du Ranelagh. In 1846 she joined the Comédie-Française and in that year she appeared there as Rosine in Beaumarchais' "Le Barbier de Séville". She became the 274th sociétaire of the Comédie-Française in 1852. In the same year she married the journalist and translator Charles Bernard-Derosne. Their son Gaston was born in 1857. She stayed with the Comédie-Française until 1866 and after that she worked at the Gaïté theatre and abroad. After she left the stage she translated works by William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens.
