Amelia Patti was the oldest daughter of the singers Salvatore Patti and Catarina Barili. The famous singer Adelina Patti was her sistsr. She was educated by her mother and by E. Muzio. In 1848 she debuted at the Astor Opera House in New York as Abigaille in the premiere of the American version of Verdi's "Nabucco". In 1849 she performed with her father in Donizetti's "Roberto Devereux" at the same venue. She was Maddalena in the American premiere of Verdi's "Rigletto" in 1855. She performed in Europe as well. In 1852 she married the composer and impresario Maurice Strakosch, who worked for her sister Adelina. Later she lived in Paris were she gave singing lessons. She died there in 1915.
