Louis Leloir was the son of two stationers. In 1880 he joined the Comédie-Française and in 1889 he became a sociétaire. He was appointed professor at the Conservatoire national de musique et de déclamation in 1894 and in 1897 he became the vice president of the Société des artistes dramatiques. because of his courageous behaviour during the fire at the Comédie-Française on 8 March 1900 he received the Légion d'honneur in November of that year. He continued his career at the Comédie-Française until 1908 and he died in November 1909 in Paris.
