Frauke Lautenbach was born in Serajevo, where her father was a manager of building projects. In Vienna she attended a dance school against the wishes of her father but her mother supported her. She started her carerer as dancer in Vienna and soon appeared as an actress in Ostrau (1931-1932), Graz (1933-1934) and Teplice (1933-1934). In 1934 she went to Vienna where she was very successful. By some she was regarded as the most beautiful woman in Vienna in the 1930s.

In 1936 she played in the movie "Silhouetten" and she also appeared in "Der Mann der nicht nein sagen kann" (1938). In 1938 she was in "Fortsetsung folgt" that was directed by Paul Martin. He was in a relationship met Lilian Harvey, but started an afffair with Lauterbach. In 1939 they married and she ended her acting career. She worked for her husband as a dialogue director and their marriage lasted until his death in 1967. She lived until 2004.
