Louise Mauduit was the daughter of the geometer Antoine-René Mauduit, a professor at the Collège de France. She was a pupil of Charles Meynier and in 1810 she first exhibited at the Salon in Paris and she continued to exhibit there until 1824. In 1817 and 1819 she won first class medals.

In 1821 she married the painter Louis Hersent. At their home at 22 rue Casette she opened a painting school for women. Later one of her pupils, Louise Adélaïde Desnos, took over the management from her. Her work can be found in the collection of many museums in France.
