Sigmund Eibenschütz studied at the Music Academy in Budapest where Franz Liszt and Ferenc Erkel were his teachers. Together with his sister Ilona, a virtuosis on the piano, he toured in Europe. He settled in Vienna where he worked as an opera répétiteur at the school of Louise Dustmann. He also worked as a conductor at the large theatres in Vienna. In 1895 he was contracted for ten years by the Theater an der Wien. In 1903 he married the soubrette Dora Keplinger. From 1908 until his death in 1922 he was the manager of the Carltheater.
