Lucie Veau married the banker Robert Pauwels who collected works of the painter Maurice Utrillo. She first met Utrillo in 1920. After her husband died she was encouraged by Utrillo's mother Suzanne Valadon to marry him and she did so in 1935.

They moved to Le Vesinet and inspired by Suzanne Valadon and by her husband she started painting herself. they stayed together until he died in 1955. In 1963 she founded the Association Maurice Utrillo. She died in 1965 and was buried beside him at St Vincent Cemetery in Paris.
