Ernst Klimt was a younger brother of Gustav Klimt. He attended the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna. He was a pupil of Ferdinand Julius Laufberger (1829-1881). Ernst, Gustav and their friend Franz Matsch founded their own company in 1881. Ernst decorated several theatres. In 1891 he married Helene Flöge. the sister of Klimt's friend Emilie Flöge. They had a daughter, Helene. But in December 1892 Ernst died, aged only 28. He was buried at the Baumgartner Friedhof in Vienna in the same grave as his father, who had died a few months earlier.
