Helene Flöge was one of the three daughter of the master wood turner and pipe manufacturer Hermann Flöge. She married Ernst Klimt in 1891, the younger brother of Gustav Klimt. They had a daughter, also named Helene (1892-1980), but Ernst died in 1892. Before that he had depicted her in the staircase of the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

From 1904 to 1938 the Flöge sisters had a fashion salon at the Mariahilferstrasse in Vienna where Helene was responsible for the customer service.
