Daughter of actor Jean-Louis Trintignant and director and author Nadine Marquand. She performed in many movies, often portraying whores and alcoholics. In 1990 she was involved in a serious road accident and narrowly escaped death.

In 1998 she married Samuel Benchetrit, with whom she had two children. She already had a son by Richard Kolinka (of rock group Télephone) and a son by actor François Cluzet. She was still married to Benchetrit when she started living together with Bertrand Cantet, the singer of Noir Desir.

She died of a cerebral edema after she was beaten up by Cantet during a stay in Vilnius (Lithuania). He claimed it was an accident, but he waited for five hours before he called an ambulance and was sentenced to eight years in prison (in 2007 he was released). Her funeral was attended by Catherine Deneuve, Daniel Auteuil, Lionel Jospin and others. At the time of her death she was planning a movie on Colette.
