Trude Marlen was interested in the theatre from a very young age. She took comedy lessons in her hometown Graz, where Lori Weiser was her teacher. She debuted during the thirties and was engaged at theatres in Brno, Berlin and Vienna.

Her beauty and charms soon attracted the attention of the UFA studio's, who saw a German Jean Harlow in her. Her first movie was "Des jungen dessauers große liebe". She appeared next to Willi Forst. Movies with Theo Lingen, Hans Moser and Heinz Rühmann followed.

During the war she met Wolf Albach-Retty, with whom she fell in love. They started living together and after Albach-Retty divorced Magda Schneider they married. Actress Sacha Darwin (b.1947) is their daughter. After the fall of the Third Reich she had abandoned her movie career and returned to the theatre.

In 1967 Albach-Retty died and in the same year she returned to the cinema for a short time, appearing in "Heubodengeflüster". Her last movie part was in "Ene mene muh - und tot bist du" (2001).
