Antonie Adamberger was the daughter of the opera singer Josef Valentin Adamberger (1740-1804) and his wife, the actress Maria Anna Jacquet (1752-1804). After the death of her parents in 1804 she was educated by the poet Heinrich Joseph von Collin (1771-1811). She debuted at the Burgtheater on 1 January 1807 and was offered a contract immediately afterwards. She performed in sentimental as wel as tragical roles and quickly became a favourite with the public.

Ludwig von Beethoven composed his "Lieder des Kärchen" for his music voor goethe's "Egmont" especially for her and she first performed them at the Burgtheater on 15 June 1810. In January 1812 Theodor Körner was engaged as theatre poet at the Burgtheater. She first met him during a rehearsal of the comedy "Der grüne Domino" and in Febraury Körner started writing his drama "Toni" in which she would play the title part. Later that year they became engaged, but Körner joined the war against Napoleon and he was killed in action in 1813.

In 1817 she left the stage and she married the archaeologist Joseph Arneth. In 1819 their son Alfred was born. In 1820 she became reader to empress Karoline Auguste. In 1832 she was put in command of the Karolinenstift, an educational institute for daughters of soldiers. She died in 1867 in Vienna and was buried at the Währinger Ortsfriedhof. In 1889 her remains were transferred to the Zentralfriedhof.

Events
15/6/1810Beethoven's music to Goethe's "Egmont" is first performed at the Burgtheater in Vienna. Amalie Adamberger sang the parts that Beethoven had written with her in mind. The first part, the Ouvertüre, became so well known that it was often performed apart from Goethe's play. Goethe and E.T.A.
