Olga Khoklova was born in Nizhyn, then part of the Russian Empire and now in Ukraine. When she visited France she saw Madame Shroessont perform and she decided she wanted to be a ballerina. She managed to become a member of the Ballets Russes under Sergei Diahilev.

In 1917 she danced in the ballet "Parade" at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. The costumes were designed by Pablo Picasso and after she met him she followed Picasso to Barcelona. He introduced her to his parents and back in Paris the lived at the Rue La Boétie. On 12 Jul 1918 they married in the Russian Orthodox church at the Rue Daru, witnessed by Max Jacob and Jean Cocteau.

In 1921 their son Paulo was born and soon afterwards their marriage startedf to fail. In 1927 Picasso started an affair with the young Marie-Thérèse Walter. Only in 1935 Olga heard of the affair and by that time Marie-Thérèse was pregnant. Olga left Picasso and asked for a divorce. But Picasso didn't want to give her half of his posessions and they were never divorced. Olga died from cancer in Cannes in 1954.
