Clarisse Bourdeney was the daughter of Denis-Agile Bourdeney and Juliette Jeanneret-Gris. Her father was president of the court of appeal in Besançon in 1871. She composed music for texts by Victor Hugo, Alfred de Musset, Alphonse de Lamartine and others. She collaborated with Émile Pierre Ratez (1851-1934). She was also a collector of manuscripts.

After her death in 1898 her sister Marie Angélique Laure commissioned a sculpture for her tomb at Père Lachaise from the sculptor Albert Pasche (1873-1964).
