Julien Bourdon was the son of Charles Antoine Bourdon. He was taught by Fernand Cormon and exhibited at the Salon in Paris from 1903. In 1903 and in 1905 he competed for the Prix de Rome. In 1920 he married Marie Émilie Joséphine Piat (1892-1983) in Saint-Étienne. He worked for the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon and died in Lyon in 1946.
