Annie Tremaine was born Annie Creelman (or Crilman). She was the daughter of a Scottish sergeant in the Royal Artillery. When she was sixteen years old, she sang as Miss Tremaine ag Weston's Music Hall. She stayed there until 1868. In that year she married James Percy Fitzgerald, a commercial traveller. In 1869 they had twins, Annie Caroline and Florence Ellen. She switched from the music halls to the theatre. She appeared at the Gaiety Theatre in London, but also in also in Dublin and Belfast. Her husband did not like her to perform in other cities, but she enjoyed it. She started an affair with the George Beaumont Loveday, the manager of the Gaiety Theatre and left her family. She joined Lydia Thompson's burlesque company and toured with them until 1874. After that she worked for the Clara Louise Kellogg opera company and in 1876, she toured with Therese Tietjens. In 1876 her husband sued for divorce. Her daughters were raised by his new wife. Annie married Loveday on 25 January 1877. They had two sons. In 1880 she worked for Frederick Archer's opera company and from 1881 she appeared in comic opera in London. Loveday died in 1887 and after that she performed in the provinces. In 1893 the Carl Rosa Company engaged her, and she worked there for five years. After that she retired, and she lived until 1934.
