Léontine Gruvelle was the daugher of Charles Grivelle and his wife Françoise Travers. In 1869 she married the painter Giuseppe de Nittis. Their son Jacques became a doctor. Léontine had previously been an artist's model and after she was widowed in 1884 she became a writer, sometimes using the name Olivier Chantal. Her novel "Flora Fuchs" (1886) was a success and further novels followed. She also wrote stories and worked for many magazins. In 1895 she published "Souvenirs du peintre Joseph de Nittis". In 1896 she received the Prix Leclerc. After her death in 1913 she was buried in the grave of her husband at Père Lachaise in Paris.
