Catherine Collard was the daughter of the pianist André Collard. She started studying at the Conservatory in Paris when she was fourteen years old. Yvonne Léfébure, Germaine Mounier and Yvonne Loriod were her teachers. She won a first prize for piano in 1964 and a first prize for chamber music in 1966. she often performed in duo with the pianist Anne Queffélec (b.1948). She worked as a professor at the Saint-Maur-des-Fossés Conservatory.

After a period of inactivity she recorded a series of highly acclaimed records for Lyrinx between 1987 and 1993. In 1993 she suddenly died of cancer at the age of 46. The actress Marcelline Collard (b.1951) is her sister.
