Charles Lukey Collard's worked with his uncle Frederick William Collard who started the Collard and Collard Piano store. In 1835 he married Isabella Mary Wakefield (1815-1884) from London. In 1875 in Somerset a country house was built for him that was designed by Owen Jones. It was named Abbotsfield and Collard was visited there by the composer Wagner and the singer Adelina Patti, who sang there.
