Gabel Leplus was the son of the music teacher Joachim François Joseph Leplus. His birthdate is uncertain. He won first prize for flute at the Conservatory of Paris in 1825. He worked as solo flutist at the Opéra-Comique, at the Théâtre-Italien and at the Opera. In 1838 he married the singer Jenny Colon, but she died in 1842. In 1846 he married Antoinette Habeneck, the daughter of François Habeneck. With her he had three children. He wrote and published nusic for the flute until into the 1850s.
