Georges Chamerot bought one of Firmin-Didot's printing works at the rue de Saint-Pères in 1872. In 1874 he married Claudie Viardot, the daughter of the famous singer Pauline Viardot-Garcia. He published "La Nouvelle Revue" and "Revue de l’enseignement" and other publications.

He was deputy mayor of the 6th arrondisement of Paris for five years. He was also the president of the Trade Union Chamber of Typographic Printers. In 1890 he became a Knight of the Légion d'honneur.
