Colette Mars was born as Nicole Huot in Tangier, Morocco. After she emigrated to France she started her career in cabarets in Paris. Apart from singing, she appeared in a number of movies between 1947 and 1970, including Raymond Lamy's "Miroir" (1947). In the 1950s and 1960s she was a well known person in the nightlife. She made several records in the 1950s and as a television presenter she was the first to bring the singer Barbara to the screen.

She once said 'Never follow a woman or a taxi. Another one will pass by immediately.' Another quote is 'Why marry? Why exchange the attentions of several men for the lack of attention of one?'. She died in Sion, Valais in 1995 and was buried at the Passy cemetery in Paris.
