Lucy Cockerill was the daughter of the industrialist Philipp Heinrich Cockerill (1821-1903). She married the author Alfred Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden, who died in 1887. They had a daughter in 1884, Irma (d.1946). In 1889 she married her second husband, the Jewish author Richard Fleischer (1849-1937) from Wiesbaden. She was among the richest women of her time.
