Philipp Heinrich Cockerill was the son of the industrialist James Cockerill (1787-1837), who worked in Verviers and Liège. His mother Carolina was the daughter of the textile manufacturer Philipp Heinrich Pastor from Burtscheid. His the death of his father in 1837 and his uncle John Cockerill in 1840, he became a partner in the Belgian family business. In 1849 he became a member of the Aachen Casino Club. In 1853 he married Thussnelda Emilie Haniel (1830-1903), the daughter of the entrepeneur Franz Haniel from Duisburg. She brought shares in several companies with her and he became one of the richest men in Aachen. He foundes several schools and hospitals. In 1883 he bought Allner Castle near Hennef an der Sieg for his daughter Lucy (1860-1913) and her husband. He died in 1903 in Frankfurt am Main. Family Daughter: Cockerill, Lucy |
