Lella Ricci was the daughter of the composer Luigi Ricci and the opera singer Ludmilla Stolz. Her father loved both Ludmilla and her twin sister Francesca and the composer Luigi Ricci-Stolz was her half brother by her father and her aunt. She was educated as a singer and in 1868/1869 she sang in Paris. Emilio Usiglio composed the opera "La scommessa" and it was successfully performed in Florence at the Theatre Principe Umberto. Bedrich Smetana invited her to Prague to sing in the opera "Crispino e la comare" that was composed by her father. In Prague she became pregnant, possibly by Smetana. To protect her career she chose an abortion, but she died of internal bleeding. She was buried in the grave of her father at the Olsany cemetery. 6/7/1870 | Premiere of "La scommessa" by Emilio Usiglio at the Teatro Principe Umberto in Florence. He had written it for the young opera singer Lella Ricci and it was succesfully performed at the Theatre Principe Umberto. The libretto was written by by Benedetto Rado.  |
