Auguste Aiguier was born into a family of farmers. He didn't have the physical strength to do the same work as his parents and worked as a hairdresser in Marseille. He married a Miss Barthélémy, who was a milliner. He took painting classes in the studio of Félix Ziem and on his advise he continued his studies at the municipal school of fine arts where Émile Loubon and Augustin Albert were his teahcers. He started exhibiting in Marseille in 1846. In 1852 he went to Paris to study under Ernst Hébert. After his return to Marseille two of his paintings were shown at the Universal Exhibition of 1855 in Paris. He also exhibited two paintings at the Universal Exhibition of 1862 in London. Tuberculosis damaged his health and he retired to the home of his parents in Le Pradet near Toulon. He died there in 1865.
