Curt Aghte was the son of the piano maker Oscar Agthe (1885-1909). He was taught at the Art Academy in Berlin by Anton von Werner and Max Michael. Felix Burchardt was a fellow pupil. From 1891 until at least 1939 he was a member of the Verein Berliner Künstler. Around 1900 there were frequent exhibitions of his work, but it was hardly acquired by the large museums. For many years he was an illustratrator for the art magazine Velhagen & Klasings Monatshefte. In the 1920s he often worked in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. In 1939 his portrait was painted by his friend Heinrich Lorenzen.
