Through his mother, Alexis Paul Pitron was the grandson of the actor Derval (1801-1885) and he borrowed his name. In 1916 he became the assistant to Raphaël Beretta, the director of the Folies Bergère in Paris. He succeeded him in 1918 and in 1924 he became the owner of the theatre. He enlarged it in 1928 and after the Second World War Michel Gyarmaty was responsible for staging the revues.

In the 1920s he lived with the actress Aimée Campton. She died in 1930 and in 1935 he married Antonia Derval. In 1954 he published "Folies-Bergère, souvenirs de leur directeur" with a preface by Maurice Chevalier. After his death in 1966 his wife succeeded him as the director of the Folies Bergère. She sold it in 1974 to Hélène Martini.
