Marie Delna was orphaned when she was fifteen months old. Together with her sister she was raised by her maternal grandmother in Longjumeau, Essone. From 1881 she lived with her paternal grandparents at Meudon, Hauts-de-Seine. She studied singing with Rosine Laborde and appeared at private concerts in Paris. She was noticed by Léon Carvalho who invented her stage name.

In 1892 she debuted as Didon in "Les Troyens à Carthage" by Berlioz. Jules Massenet selected her to perform the part of Charlotte in his "Werther" in 1893. She was also the first Marceline in "L'attaque du moulin" by Bruneau. Many important roles followed. In 1894 she appeared at Covent Garden in "L'attaque du moulin". In 1897 she sang in Milan. At the Salle Favart in Paris she sang the part of Carmen in 1900. After she sang the same part in Brussels at the Théâtre de la Monnaie she married her Belgian admirer the Marquis Prier de Saône.

After her marrriage she retired from the stage, but later she resumed her career with several concerts. She debuted at the Metroplitan Opera in New York under Toscanini. During the First World War she sang for the troops. In 1926 financial trouble forced her to move to a rented house in Villemonble, a suburb of Paris. She died in 1932 and was buried at the Thiais cemetery. Later her remains were moved to Père Lachaise.
