Christine Fersen was a pupil of the actor Fernand Ledoux (1897-1993) at the Conservatory. She won two first prizes for comedy and a second prize for tragdy. In 1965 she joined the Comédie Française as a pensionnaire and she became a sociétaire (a full member) in 1976. In 2007 she became the dean of the Comédie Française.

She was known for her performances as Marie Tudor and Lucrezia Borgia from the works of Victor Hugo and also as Marie Stuart in the piece by Friedrich Schiller. Her tragic parts earned her the nickname 'Reine Christine'.

Her only son committed suicide. She died in 2008 on Paris after a fall from her window. She was buried with her son at the Montmartre Cemetery.
