Ludwig Correggio was the son of the still life painter Josef Correggio (1810-1891). The painter Max Correggio (1854-1908) was his younger brother. He studied with his father and from October 1861 at the Academy of Arts in Munich under Hermann Anschütz. After his studies he visited Austira and Italy.

He was best known for his landscapes and he was a friend of the painter Wilhelm Leibl. He died in 1930 in Munich.
