Sophie Louise Kloss was the daughter of the painter Frederick Theodor Kloss (1802-1876), who was born in Germany. He had been appointed professor at the Art Academy in Kopenhagen shortly before her birth. Her mother was Sophie Caroline von Bauditz. In 1888 she was one of the 23 women who signed a petition for the admission of women to the Academy of Fine Arts. In the same year she exhibited at the Spring Exhibition in Charlottenburg.

With support of the Hielmstierne-Rosencroneske Foundation she was able to go to Italy and there she studied with Erulo Eroli in his studio from 1895 to 1898. She painted landscapes from Jutland, Sweden and Italy.
