Henri de Tascher de la Pagerie was a German cousin of Joséphine de Beauharnais. In 1803 he joined the army. In 1808 he was promoted to colonel and he became aide-de-camp to Joseph Bonaparte. He followed him to Naples and to Spain. He saw action during the battles of Espinosa and Saint-Vincent.

In 1810 he was made a baron and a count of the empire. In 1811 he married Marcelle Clary, a niece of queen Désirée of Spain. After Joseph Bonaparte lost his throne in Spain, Tascher de la Pagerie retiurned to France in 1814. After the bourbon restoration he was promoted to field marshal in November 1814. He died in 1816.
