Jean Adolpe Lasource was the founder of the École Normale in Metz, of which he became the director in 1832. He was also involved in the foundation of the Société d'Histoire Naturelle de la Moselle.

Around 1820 he married Marie Antoinette Remy, with whom he had a son. After she died in 1825 he married Adèle Grisel on 6 September 1826. with her he had four more children. On 11 august 1855 he was awarded the Légion d'honneur. He died in 1865 in Metz and was buried at the Cimetière de l'Est. The medal on his grave was created by Charles Pêtre.
