In 1893 Louis Lumière married Rose Winckler (2/21893-21/10/1925) and they had three children.

Louis invented the cinematographe together with his brother Auguste. In 1895 they gave their first private screening of a movie made with this combination of a camera and a projector. They produced several movies until 1900. Their autograph plates were taken into industrial production in 1907.

During the Second World War they were in favour of Pétain and this troubled their reputation for a long time afterwards. Louis died in 1948.
