Otto Kerry was the son of the bookseller Dr. Otto Kerry (born Kohn). His brother was the violinist Fritz Kerry (1916-1990) and his sister was the painter Christl Kerry (1889-1978). Otto attended Rudolf Beer's acting school in the 1930s. He debuted at the Theater an der Wien in the 1937/1938 season. During the Second World War he was drafted into military service. But he managed to return to the stage soon afterwards and performed in German theatres in 1941 and 1942. After 1945 he he appeared at the cabaret Wiener Werkel and at the Theater in der Josefstadt. In 1947 he became a member of the ensemble of the Burgtheater, where he was mostly cast in supporting roles. He appeared in sevetal movies, including Alfred Stöger's "Der Wallnerbub (1950). He also gave acting lessons and Emmy Werner was his pupil from 1957 to 1959. From 1952 he was a freemason. In 1954 he published a small bibliography of Karl Kraus and he extended it in 1970 and 1973.
