Rosa Anschütz was the daughter of the actor and director Heinrich Anschütz. Her mother Emilie Butenop was an actress and she was the daughter of theatre director Karl Heinrich Butenop. As early as 1836 Rosa appeared in children´s parts at the Burgtheater in Vienna. In 1845 she performed at the Theater in der Josefstadt. Her debut in a formal role took place at the Burgtheater in June 1847 as Friedrike in Iffland´s "Die Jäger". In 1851 she married Joseph Hellmesberger. After her marriage she ended her own career and took care of their five children. She died in 1909 in Germany, but she was buried in the family grave at Hietzing Cemetery in Vienna.
