Bertha Linda was born as Bertha Babitsch in Vienna. She studied in Vienna and in Milan and she debuted as a dancer in 1864 in Hamburg. From 1 September 1875 to 30 April 1879 she was prima ballerina at the Court Opera in Vienna. She performed in "Satanella", "Die Stumme von Portici", "Coppellia" and in the Viennese premiere of Delibes' "Sylvia" on 25 October 1877. In 1881 she married the painter Hans Makart, but the Viennese society didn't accept this marriage. In 1883 she was painted by Gustav Gaul. Makaert died in 1884. Her second husband was Count Karl Strachwitz and her third husband was Rittmeister Géza Udvalaky. Both marriages were unhappy. After Udvalaky committed suicide she moved to Baden near Vienna.
