Aglaé Savatier was the illegitimate daughter of the politician Étienne Louis Harmant, vicomte d'Abancourt (1774-1850). Her mother was a laundress named Marguerite. her mother married a soldier named André Savatier and had further children. The family moved to Paris. After she finisehd school, Aglaé sang at the Operá Garnier. She moved in artistic circles, and she modelled for painters. In 1847 she was the model for Auguste Clésinger's sculpture "Femme piquée par un serpent". It was purchased by Alfred Mosselman, who was Fanny's lover from 1847 to 1861. He provided her with a fine house at 4 rue Frochot. She preferred to call herself Apollonie Sabatier now and her salon was visited by Gustave Flaubert, Alfred de Musset, Théofile Gautier, Alexandre Dumas Père and many others. Her guests called her La Présidente'. In 1851 she first met Charles Baudelaire who admired her and was inspired by her. In 1857 they were lovers for a while, but Baudelaire soon lost interest and ended the relationship on 31 August 1857. After Mosselman replaced her with a younger mistress in 1861, she became the lover of the British Collector Alfred Wallace. She sold his art collection to him and after he inherited his father's fortune in 1870, he provided handsomely for her. She died in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1890 and was buried at the Cimetière Ancien de Neuilly.
